The Women Reach Women CIC aims to empower women, in particularly BME women to take control of their own health and their family’s health through engagement in physical activity and lifestyle changes. Generally, women neglect their own health because they are busy taking care of other family members and taking on other responsibilities. Also for some BME women cultural and religious issues pose added challenges in attending sports and fitness centres. The WRW initiative works with women to understand that through making lifestyle changes, this can make a difference in the women’s and their family’s physical and emotional health.
Through the provision of community based Bollywood themed aerobics classes, we aim to engage women to get physically more active followed by educational sessions addressing emotional well-being and physical health awareness such as weight loss, regular exercise, health eating, screening appointments, and unhealthy behaviours and other sensitive issues affecting South Asian women such as domestic violence and mental health issues.
WRW provides volunteering and training opportunities to engage with women in developing their capacity and skills giving women the opportunity to learn through experience. Women will gain confidence and be able to make more informed decisions about education, work and family life.
